What a great place. A hidden gem. Definitely the best and most authentic Mexican food in Lake Charles. I'm hesitant to even post this so that we won't have to share this place. The margarita s are no joke. Be aware! Lol

Great little local place with authentic Mexican music playing that makes you feel like you're gonna good. My server was quick, attentive and very friendly. The barbacoa tacos were my favorite along with the beef tamales. I've never had tamales topped with what I thought was beef or chorizo or not wrapped in corn husk, but I ordered another one after my first one. I will be back! I love these small places with great, authentic food. Try and you won't regret.

First time trying it and it was DELICIOUS! Everything we had was really good. It was hot in there and the building isn't much to look at but I don't care if the food tastes this good. Service was gas and friendly.

Lake Charles is a restaurant town. Perched as it is along the Louisiana gulf coast, that's hardly surprising. The best food in America and arguably the world is found in an arc generally defined by New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio and Austin. SWLA is in the center of that culinary "hammock." As terrible and destructive as hurricanes are, here is a fact. They have a habit of reinventing culinary centers, which rise newly creative and innovative from the rubble. Of course Lake Charles suffered not one but two major hurricanes, along with a recent deep freeze and a year-long pandemic. So getting the food service industry restarted here, be they independent restaurants, chains, or the big casino resorts, hasn't come easily. It's especially hard to find employees when those employees don't have a place to live. I'm reminded of Restaurant August in New Orleans, one of the early fine dining restaurants to reopen after Katrina. The people who cooked and served the food back then were living communally in a couple of rooms upstairs, where the bottles of wine were once stored. But in the end, New Orleans as a restaurant city emerged bigger and clearly better...than ever before. Restaurants old, reborn and new are similarly leading the charge of the post-storm, post-pandemic renaissance of the Lake Charles area. Many of those which took cataclysmic damage are remodeling or rebuilding, and are starting to open if they haven't already. Others are relative newcomers, some seeking their place in niches which are already seemingly crowded. The large number of Latinos and Hispanics who populate this area, some long-term and some short term (construction) have spurred the proliferation of new south-of-the-border cafes and taquerias. The real deal; not dumbed down for American tastes. Let's face it; Cajuns in SWLA can handle anything you can serve them. Similarly, the same people who rebuilt Nola after Katrina also fueled its culinary rebirth. I had street tacos for lunch on my first visit to Taqueria Los Sanchez, a modest, brightly painted wood frame joint on College St. along I-210. I loved them. So my wife and I returned tonight and I went for the hard stuff. Molcajete mixto, with corn tortillas and three plump chile toreados. Absolutely delicious, and enough for three meals. It took me two go-boxes to fit in everything I couldn't eat in the first sitting, and God knows I tried. Their salsa is homemade, without peer in Lake Charles, and just about anywhere else I can think of. The people here are lovely. The food is exceptional, and the prices are reasonable. The first pic is of my molcajete. I've also included pics of their birria tacos and whole red snapper. They also do Menudo at lunch on weekdays as well as weekends. All this, plus photographs of the legendary Pedro Infante on the wall, judging you as you eat your meal Face it, guys. This is who we all want to be. But I'll settle for lunch or dinner at Taqueria Los Sanchez's.
